WHAT WE DID

Copywriting, Storyboarding, Strategy & Positioning, Video

  • Designed by Durham and developed alongside Sky Elements, the studio took its work to the skies with “Eyes Up,” a conceptual choreography that explores the simultaneous awe and fascination that accompanies our first encounters with both the natural and technological wonders.

    BLINK Cincinnati is an outdoor, awe-inspiring event that spans over 30 city blocks showcasing large-scale projection mapping, murals, and interactive light sculptures stretched from Covington, Kentucky to Over-the-Rhine in Ohio.

    In 2022, BLINK returned to the area for the first time since 2019, and the studio was approached to design the largest drone show in Cincinnati’s history.

    When imagining the ambiance of the show, we were inspired by the intersection of science and art, and how it’s shaped humankind to contend our smallness compared to the vast and stunning beauty of our universe.

    After ideating, conceptualizing, and narrating the storyline, we continued to build the verbal into visual – developing the fluidity between shapes of the 8 sky-bound scenes. Our 10 minute orchestra of 300 drones choreographed over the Ohio River for all to see on all sides of its water.

OUR APPROACH

‘Eye’s Up’ Explores the simultaneous awe and fascination that accompanies our first encounters with both the natural and technological wonders.

When Imagining the ambiance of this concept, we were inspired by scientists and artists who have helped humankind to contend our relative smallness compared to the vast and stunning beauty of our universe.

Inspired by Richard K. Nelson’s quote on seeing the Alaska wolverine; “I looked directly into its eyes and knew that I understood nothing”, the approach to the show became clear.

STORYBOARDS

After completing the conceptual narrative, we turned to developing the sky-bound visuals of the show. Our approach was to break it down into 8 chapters that naturally build to the BLINK eye logo reveal during the finale of the show. Each chapter was intentionally sequenced to transition shapes seamlessly into the chapter that follows.

A RECORD-BREAKING ATTENDANCE

Blink Cincinnati had a record-breaking attendance with over 2 million visitors and 4 million eyes up across the 4 day event.
